Tragedy in Edo: Gunmen K!ll Man, Abduct Pregnant Wife and Sister in Midnight Attack
Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen
have killed a man identified as Friday Pius and abducted his pregnant wife and
her sister during a deadly home invasion in Uluoke community, Uzairue, Etsako
West LGA of Edo State.
The harrowing incident took place
in the early hours of Monday, April 14, 2025, when the attackers stormed the
victim’s residence between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.
According to eyewitnesses, the
assailants shot Pius dead at close range, leaving his lifeless body beside his
three young children who cried helplessly as the attackers escaped into the
night with their mother and aunt.
“When people finally came out
after the gunfire ended, they found the man lying in a pool of blood. His wife
and her sister were gone,” a community source recounted.
The spokesperson of the Edo State
Police Command, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident in a statement released
on Thursday. He disclosed that police operatives have been deployed to the area
and are working in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters to rescue
the kidnapped victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The Command is aware. Necessary
deployments have been made in that regard. Our men have sustained bush combing
and rescue operations with a view to rescuing the victims,” Yamu said.
In the wake of the attack, women
from the community staged a protest, taking to the streets to demand urgent
government intervention and improved security.
One of the protesters, who
identified herself as Rashidetu, expressed frustration over the rising
insecurity in the area.
“We can’t go to our farms
anymore. Herdsmen have taken over—uprooting cassava to feed their cows and
kidnapping or killing anyone who tries to stop them,” she lamented.
She emphasized that the protest
wasn’t just about this latest tragedy but about the worsening security
situation that has left the community living in constant fear and unable to
earn a livelihood.
The community is now calling on security agencies and the government to take immediate action before more lives are lost.
