Delta Governor’s aide, Chief (Mrs) Bello, Allegedly Poisoned by Husband
The heartbreaking news was first
confirmed by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu in a Facebook post. While
the full circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, the incident has
ignited widespread concern over the issue of domestic violence.
Adding fuel to the fire, Facebook
user Hon. Oge Okonkwo alleged that Shimite’s husband has been arrested in
connection with her death. Tameta Sunday, a close aide to the late adviser,
shared an emotional tribute accusing her husband—said to be a pastor—of being
responsible for the tragic loss of her life and legacy.
Shimite Bello was best known for
her impactful work in trade and economic development. She served as the
Coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre and was a key figure in the Federal
Government’s Social Investment Programme in Delta State.
Beyond government, Bello was a
passionate promoter of African heritage, hosting and producing African Pot,
a TV documentary celebrating African cuisine, culture, and tourism. Her
influence stretched across the continent through roles on the Board of
Directors at FESECA (Foundation for Economic Change in Africa) and as a member
of the USAID/NEXTT Steering Committee for the Lakaji Trade Corridor. She was
also a contributing writer for publications such as Daily Trust and Leadership.
Her sudden and tragic death has
sparked an outcry across Nigeria, with many demanding justice and calling for
urgent action against gender-based violence.
