Financial Expert Reacts as Half Loaves of Bread Hit Nigerian Supermarkets
Financial educator Kalu Aja took to
social media to share his deep concern after spotting what he called "sachet
bread" being sold at a local store. In a now-viral post on X (formerly
Twitter), he shared a photo of half-sized loaves packaged and displayed for
sale a desperate innovation meant to help struggling Nigerians afford a basic
staple.
Kalu’s reaction was raw and
emotional:
"Omo, this is shameful and
painful at the same time. I commend the bakery for thinking outside the box. I
weep for the eviscerated middle class."
Drawing a grim picture of the
nation's economic decline, he added:
"If bread is sold in slices
and spaghetti in bundles, then the poverty smells like a two-weeks-dead goat in
a beautiful mansion."
In a country where the middle class
once symbolized hope and aspiration, the sight of bread being sold in portions
feels like a stark reminder of how deep the financial crisis runs.
Kalu ended his message with a
chilling truth:
"God help you, because
that’s where your only help will come from."
