In a heartbreaking turn of events, a Police Inspector identified as Maxwell Zabu was found dead on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, after allegedly taking his own life at a private residence in Eagle Island, Port Harcourt.

The residence belongs to Hon. Victor Ihunwo, former Chairman of the Port Harcourt Local Government Area, where Zabu served as a personal orderly and trusted aide. Sources say the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, sending shockwaves through the quiet neighborhood.

Authorities at the Eagle Island Police Post, under the Azikiwe Division, were alerted to the tragic event, and detectives swiftly arrived at the scene to begin a preliminary investigation.

While details remain under wraps, the Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident. Speaking on behalf of the command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko noted that while suicide is suspected, a full investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding Zabu’s death.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has since ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for a more in-depth probe.
