“Stop Fighting the Innocent”: Activist Slams Delta Security Forces Over Alleged Brutality(Photos)
Human rights advocate Harrison
Gwamnishu has sounded the alarm over what he calls a disturbing trend of
brutality and harassment by Delta State’s Joint Security Task Force accusing
them of targeting law-abiding citizens while the real criminals roam free.
Taking to social media, Gwamnishu
shared shocking images of a young man, Moses Hujionye, allegedly battered by
personnel from Operation Delta Sweep and Operation Delta Hawk. The images are
graphic and deeply unsettling: Moses’ face is visibly swollen, his back
streaked with bleeding lash marks, and his head forcibly shaved a humiliating
mark of abuse rather than justice.
“This is not policing, this is
persecution,” Gwamnishu wrote, calling on the security agencies to redirect
their focus toward apprehending kidnappers and armed robbers hiding in the
bush, rather than unleashing terror on unarmed civilians in the streets.
The activist's callout has sparked
a wave of online reactions, with many demanding an official investigation into
the incident. The broader concern remains: if security outfits meant to protect
are instead the source of fear, who will hold them accountable?
As Operation Delta Sweep and Delta
Hawk continue their campaigns, Gwamnishu and other advocates are urging a full
reassessment of tactics prioritizing rule of law, community trust, and the
safety of the very people these forces were created to defend.
