Delta Governor Jumps Ship: Oborevwori Ditches PDP for APC
In a political twist few saw
coming, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has officially parted
ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and crossed over to the All
Progressives Congress (APC), setting off a ripple effect that may reshape the
political map of the South-South.
The defection was sealed during a
hush-hush meeting held Wednesday evening at the Government House in Asaba.
Sources say the mood was tense but decisive. Later that night, Governor
Oborevwori’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the move, calling
it the result of “extensive consultations” with key stakeholders and “a bold
step in the best interest of Delta’s future.”
Oborevwori, who clinched victory in
the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP banner, was warmly received by
top APC officials—a powerful show of force from the ruling party. This
high-level crossover isn’t just political drama; it’s strategic positioning.
Observers are already tagging it a masterstroke ahead of the 2027 general
elections.
Analysts suggest the move could
trigger a domino effect across the South-South region, long considered a PDP
stronghold. With Oborevwori now in APC's corner, the balance of power is
shifting and fast.
