Wanted: Have You Seen This Man? Lagos Launches Hunt for "Serial Dumper"
Imagine the audacity: repeatedly dumping refuse in plain sight, despite
warnings and public health risks. That's the challenge facing Lagos, and now,
the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is turning to its citizens for
help. They're on the hunt for a man caught on camera illegally dumping waste on
the Alapere Link Bridge, and there's a reward for information leading to his
arrest.
On Wednesday, May 21, the state Commissioner for the Environment and
Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared a dramatic clip: a LAWMA field officer,
aided by a brave local trader, filmed the suspect in the act. This isn't a
one-off incident; LAWMA reports he's been at it for months, undermining their
efforts and posing a serious threat to public health and the environment.
The message from LAWMA is clear: "Over the past few months,
LAWMA has received repeated reports of indiscriminate waste dumping on the
Alapere Link Bridge... The illegal activity has continued undermining the work
of our accredited PSP operators and threatening public health and the
environment."
Now, with clear visual evidence, the authorities are leveraging
community power. While efforts are underway to trace the offender via his
license plate, they're extending an appeal to "civic-minded members of the
public" to join the "war on those intent on destroying
Lagos."
Do you recognize the individual in the video? Have any credible tips
about others engaged in similar unlawful acts? LAWMA is offering a small reward
for information leading to successful arrests. Your identity will be protected.
Contact them immediately via DM or email at info@lawma.gov.ng or DM @muyiwag.
This isn't just about catching one offender; it's about reclaiming
Lagos's cleanliness, one citizen tip at a time.
