Akwa Ibom Governor Eno Dumps PDP for APC, Tells Cabinet: "Follow Me or Resign!"
The political landscape of Akwa
Ibom State is set for a major shake-up! Governor Umo Eno has just issued a
stark directive to his commissioners and political appointees: either defect
with him to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or resign from their positions.
This decisive move, announced during the State Executive Council meeting on Thursday,
May 23rd, leaves no room for ambiguity.
Governor Eno minced no words,
stating unequivocally, “It’s no more news that I’m moving party, if you
don’t know that by now, I don’t know what else you know.” He clarified that
while appointees are "absolutely free not to join me," they
cannot simultaneously serve in his cabinet and maintain allegiance to another
party.
“So, you better just be prepared
to resign the day I announce that I’m moving because you are an appointee and
your loyalty is to me," the Governor declared. "You can’t be
in my cabinet and play anti party, it’s not a threat, it is what it is. I won’t
beg you to come, you should normally not even expect it.”
The Governor's decision to leave
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite his affection for it, stems from
deep concerns about the party's ongoing internal crisis at the national level.
He expressed fears of potential electoral setbacks due to "technical
grounds" such as issues with official signatures on election forms.
While confident that his
administration's work would secure victory "even if we contest on a
zero party," Governor Eno highlighted the instability plaguing the PDP
nationally. This strategic realignment aims to ensure a smoother path to
potential re-election, sidestepping the internal turmoil that could jeopardize
hard-won victories.
This directive sets the stage for a
significant shift in Akwa Ibom's political alignment, emphasizing loyalty and
strategic positioning ahead of future elections.

governor demanding party loyalty from his appointees?
