Wike Draws Red Line: FCT Minister Pulls Out of PDP Agreements, Vows to 'Fight On'
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is once again embroiled in a very
public and fiery internal conflict, with former Rivers State Governor and
current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike,
publicly lambasting key party leaders. In a statement released today, May 25th,
and personally signed by him, Wike laid the blame squarely at the feet of Oyo
State Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing him of being the "chief
culprit" in the party's ongoing woes.
Wike's statement pulls no punches, alleging a deep-seated pattern of "dishonesty
and lack of trust" within the PDP since the aftermath of the 2023
general elections. He specifically called out Governor Makinde for "non-adherence
to agreements reached," painting him as "the architect of our
problems."
But Makinde isn't alone in Wike's crosshairs. The FCT Minister also
accused other prominent party figures, including Enugu State Governor Peter
Mbah, of "betrayal, dishonesty, and serial violations of mutual
understandings." Wike detailed a series of alleged broken promises and
strategic maneuvers that, in his view, have sabotaged reconciliation efforts
and continue to destabilize the party.
He recounted a G5 meeting in Lagos where he confronted Makinde directly.
Despite a resolution to "bury the hatchet," Wike claims the
violations continued. He further revealed tensions at an expanded Abuja meeting
involving Seyi Makinde, Umaru Fintri, Bala Mohammed, and Bukola Saraki, where
he challenged Governor Bala Mohammed for allegedly "serially reneg[ing] on
agreements" while hiding under the facade of the PDP Governors Forum
Chairman.
Among the crucial agreements allegedly violated were: Senator Samuel
Anyanwu remaining as National Secretary. Withdrawal of all legal matters
relating to Rivers State by the National Legal Adviser. Withdrawal of the suit
on the State of Emergency.
Wike expressed "chagrin" that Makinde allegedly "connived
with Peter Mbah... to orchestrate the summoning of the meeting of so-called
South-East leaders to recommend that if Ude Okoye was not adopted as Secretary,
they would pull out of the PDP." He also cited instances where the Deputy
National Secretary acted in violation of agreements, leading to consequences
like INEC refusing to attend a zonal congress in Jos on May 24th, 2025.
Having been a member of the PDP since 1998 and contributing
"substantially to most of these governors winning their elections,"
Wike stated his deep pain at the apparent betrayal. He concluded with a
resolute declaration: "I had thought that we could keep the trust
amongst us, but since it is now obvious that they would continue to play games
to the detriment of the party... I have now firmly decided to pull out of all
agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is
attained."
This powerful statement from Wike signals an intensified battle within
the PDP, promising more political fireworks in the days to come.
