You'd think being the son of a Nigerian billionaire businessman like Emma Okonkwo would smooth over most life hurdles. But for Ugo Okonkwo, marrying his beloved Kene came with an unexpected, yet hilarious, challenge: a 3-page written exam from his future in-laws!

In a delightful chat with media personality Cynthia Obi-Uchendu, Ugo recounted the unique pre-marital tradition. Kene’s parents didn't demand a hefty dowry or complex rites; they wanted an essay. The topic? Why he wanted to marry their daughter, complete with a strict submission deadline.

"They gave me a date to submit. I met with both her parents on Wednesday. They said submit it Friday 2pm, for example. That's a 22nd. Exam,” Ugo reminisced, painting a picture of his sudden academic stress.

His attempt to seek sympathy or intervention from his famous father was met with typical billionaire pragmatism: “You see, if you want to marry, you go and write. If you don't want to marry, you go to school. Please, let's discuss business.” No shortcuts there!

Ugo, clearly a man determined to marry his Kene, took the task seriously. He drafted a meticulously structured letter, outlining his reasons in five key points, and dutifully submitted it. The ensuing silence, however, was agonizing. “I submitted Friday, no reply till Monday. I said, Kene, is your mom around? She said yes. I said, I've lost. If I submit my answer Friday, and Saturday, Sunday, Monday, no answer. The examiner has not said anything. Nothing. You must have failed now. They don't know how to tell you,” he confessed, vividly recalling his anxiety.

Thankfully, his prose passed the test! Ugo cherishes the original letter and plans to frame it, not just for nostalgia, but as a blueprint for the next generation. He humorously declared that any future suitor for his own daughters would face the very same "marriage exam."

This story is a charming reminder that sometimes, the most priceless things in life come with the most unexpected and delightfully quirky conditions!

What's the most unusual pre-marriage tradition you've ever heard of?
