Lagos Gets Tough! Illegal Dumper Heads to Kirikiri Ahead of Trial
Think twice before you dump that trash on a Lagos road! A stark warning
has been sent to residents as Olawale Ogunbadejo, a resident of Alapere, Ketu,
has been remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for the brazen act of illegal
waste disposal on a public road.
The dramatic turn of events unfolded on Wednesday, May 21st. Ogunbadejo
was caught on camera dumping refuse on the Alapere Link Bridge, an act that
quickly drew the ire of authorities. Earlier the same day, Governor Babajide
Sanwo-Olu’s Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, had taken
to social media, launching a public appeal for help in locating the culprit and
even promising a reward!
The collective effort paid off. Ogunbadejo was swiftly apprehended in a
joint operation led by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the
Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI.
Now, justice is moving swiftly. The Magistrate’s Court has ordered his
remand until June 26th, when his trial is scheduled to begin. This swift action
serves as a clear message from the Lagos State Government: environmental laws
are not to be trifled with.
This incident is a powerful reminder that in Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Lagos,
illegal dumping will not be tolerated, and offenders will be brought to
book.
