Newly-Wed Soldier Among Several Killed in Suspected Herdsmen Attack
A wave of shock and grief has swept through Ijaha-Ikobi community in Apa
Local Government Area of Benue State, following a horrific attack by suspected
herdsmen that claimed multiple lives, including that of a newly-wed soldier.
The community was reportedly engulfed in terror in the early hours of
today, Thursday, May 22, 2025, as gunmen unleashed violence, leaving behind a
trail of death and destruction. Among the confirmed casualties are two
soldiers, one of whom was a recently married man, whose future was tragically
cut short. Beyond the killings, the assailants also set several houses ablaze,
adding to the devastation.
While details are still emerging and remain sketchy, the grim reality is
becoming clearer. So far, two additional bodies have been recovered, identified
as Sani Ngbede and Aduba Paul Ogboyi, underscoring the severity of the assault.
This attack serves as another painful reminder of the persistent
security challenges faced by communities in Benue State, particularly
concerning suspected herder-farmer clashes. The loss of a newly-wed soldier
adds an extra layer of tragedy to an already devastating event.
Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the entire
Ijaha-Ikobi community grappling with this profound loss. More details are
expected to emerge as investigations continue.
