Ikorodu Building Collapse: Three Confirmed Dead, Including Two Siblings
Lagos State is mourning today following the tragic confirmation that
three individuals, including two young siblings, have lost their lives in the
building collapse that occurred in the Ikorodu area of the state yesterday, Tuesday,
May 28, 2025.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has concluded
recovery efforts at the site, with Permanent Secretary Dr. Olufemi
Oke-Osanyintolu releasing a statement confirming the heartbreaking discovery.
The deceased victims include a 74-year-old man and, most tragically, two
siblings aged 18 and 12.
LASEMA's teams worked tirelessly at the scene of the incomplete
two-storey building, which dramatically caved in yesterday afternoon. While the
news of fatalities casts a dark shadow, the agency also reported a significant
number of rescues. Nine adult males were successfully pulled from the rubble
and received immediate care from the LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit, offering a
ray of hope amidst the devastation.
As previously reported, the building, located in the Ota-Ona area facing
Mobil Filling Station (formerly Bugon Filling Station), had trapped an
unspecified number of people when it collapsed. Initial rescue efforts had
managed to save over ten individuals.
The incident serves as a stark and painful reminder of the critical
importance of safety standards and proper construction practices in urban
development. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of those who lost
their lives in this tragic event.
