Woman Arrested for Felony Child Abuse After Allegedly Beating Child on Plane
According to the arrest report, the alarming incident reportedly began
when the child called Crampton "fat" and "Miss Piggy," and
commented that she couldn't fit in the airplane seat. Witnesses aboard
Allegiant Flight 2885 told police that Crampton then allegedly "began
hitting the child with her fist" and struck him on the head with a water
bottle. Shockingly, she is also accused of "slamming" the child’s
head into the airplane window. The report details the child's desperate
attempts to cover his head with his arms to protect himself.
While airport officials have not disclosed the child's age or the exact
nature of their relationship with Crampton, the arrest report sheds light on
Crampton's perspective. She told police the child had been "very
rude" and "disrespectful" throughout their Disney trip. She
claimed that after being called "fat," she took the child's phone
away. According to her account, the child then pushed her arm off the armrest
twice, prompting her to begin "smacking" him.
However, police concluded that Crampton's actions went "beyond
typical disciplinary actions." One witness starkly stated, "the
woman was not correcting the child; she was abusing him." The child's
family reportedly declined to give statements to the police following the
incident.
Kristy Crampton has been charged with felony child abuse. She appeared
before a Seminole County judge on Tuesday, May 27, who granted her a $10,000
bond. The judge also ordered that she have no contact with the child. Due to
the incident occurring on a commercial aircraft, the FBI has been notified and
is expected to conduct its own investigation.
