The True Spirit of Hajj: Nigerian Pilgrim Returns $5,000 to Owner in Makkah
In a heartwarming display of integrity and honesty that embodies the
true spirit of the Hajj, a Nigerian pilgrim from Plateau State, Hajiya Zainab,
has returned a staggering $5,000 (equivalent to approximately ₦8,240,000) to
its rightful Russian owner in Saudi Arabia.
The remarkable act of honesty unfolded Tuesday, May 27, 2025, when
Hajiya Zainab found the substantial sum in Masjidul Haram in Makkah, the
holiest site in Islam. Her incredible gesture was disclosed by the National
Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and the Plateau State Pilgrims Board, led
by Hon. Daiyabu Dauda.
Commending her exemplary conduct, Dauda stated, “She demonstrated
exceptional integrity and honesty by returning $5,000 she found in Masjidul
Haram to its rightful owner. That’s a remarkable act of kindness.” Hajiya
Zainab's actions serve as a powerful testament to the moral values and
integrity that pilgrims are encouraged to embody during their sacred journey.
Meanwhile, as pilgrims like Hajiya Zainab prepare for the spiritual
journey, NAHCON is actively engaged in crucial discussions with Saudi
authorities regarding the reopening of visa issuance for intending pilgrims.
A statement issued today, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, by Fatima Sanda
Usara, Assistant Director of Information and Publications at NAHCON, confirmed
that several countries, including Nigeria, are pressing the Saudi government to
lift the current closure on visa processing.
Despite the uncertainty, NAHCON expressed optimism for a positive
outcome. Usara stated, “There is optimism for a positive outcome, and when
that is realised, the Commission will immediately transport the registered
pilgrims for the Hajj in another special arrangement.” She added that the
commission has already placed some staff on standby to manage the situation
efficiently once the visa window reopens.
This dual news of Hajiya Zainab's inspiring honesty and NAHCON's
persistent efforts to facilitate the pilgrimage paints a picture of hope and
dedication, reinforcing the profound significance of the Hajj experience for
Nigerian Muslims.
