Dentist Arrested After Two Men Die Following Unqualified Hair Transplant Surgeries
A shocking case of alleged medical negligence has emerged from Kanpur,
Uttar Pradesh, India, where a dentist, Dr. Anushka Tiwari, has been arrested
following the deaths of two men who underwent hair transplant surgeries at her
clinic. Authorities accuse Tiwari of performing these complex procedures
without the necessary training or qualifications, leading to tragic outcomes
for her patients.
The victims, Vinit Kumar Dubey, 37, an engineer and father-of-two, and Mayank
Katiyar, 32, also an engineer, both succumbed to complications within 48 hours
of their procedures.
Dubey, hoping for a new look to surprise his wife after completing his PhD and securing a job offer from a top US firm, visited Tiwari's private clinic, Empire, on March 13.
His wife, Jaya Tripathi, described a horrifying ordeal: "His face was so swollen, it looked like a balloon. His eyes were bulging out. I couldn't even recognise him." Dubey tragically died two days later in the hospital from a bacterial brain infection, which led to encephalopathy.
A preliminary investigation by health authorities revealed
significant medical negligence, including the procedure being carried out
despite Dubey being diabetic and hypertensive. Jaya Tripathi also stated that
when her husband's condition deteriorated, Tiwari admitted performing the
surgery "without a test."
Further investigations chillingly uncovered a similar tragedy involving Mayank Katiyar. He died in November (2024), just a day after his hair transplant with Tiwari.
His mother, Pramodini Katiyar, recounted the horrific
final hours: "He came home at 5 pm but was crying in pain by midnight. His
face swelled and darkened... By morning, he couldn’t see and was struggling to
breathe. He died in my lap the next day." She added that Tiwari became
unreachable, blocking her number after her son's death.
Dr. Anushka Tiwari had evaded authorities for weeks, with police
conducting raids in multiple states. However, her flight ended this past Monday,
May 26, 2025, when she "surrendered" at a local court and was
promptly arrested on suspicion of culpable homicide. While she initially blamed
another doctor, a case of culpable homicide has now been registered for both
deaths based on the families' complaints.
State lawyer Dilip Singh affirmed the seriousness of the allegations:
"There are serious allegations against Anushka Tiwari, a dentist, who
performed a surgery outside her professional domain. She surrendered in court
today and has been sent to jail."
Investigators are now scrutinizing the qualifications of other staff
members at the clinic, as the tragic case highlights the severe risks
associated with unregulated and unqualified cosmetic procedures. The next
hearing in this unfolding legal saga is scheduled for June 6.
This heartbreaking story serves as a stark reminder of the critical
importance of verifying the qualifications and credentials of medical
professionals before undergoing any cosmetic procedure.
