Kidnapper Confesses Plot to Fund Overseas Trip with N20M Ransom in Lagos Abduction!
In a chilling confession that offers a glimpse into the desperate
motives behind audacious crimes, a suspected kidnapper, Musa Shaibu (25), has
revealed his plan to use his share of a N20 million ransom to flee Nigeria and
travel abroad. His dreams were abruptly cut short by the swift actions of the
Lagos State Police Command, who rescued the teenage victim and apprehended
Shaibu.
The incident unfolded in the Olodi-Apapa area of Lagos on May 1, 2025,
when Shaibu and four other gang members allegedly abducted Hassan (14), the son
of a prominent Bureau De Change operator, directly from their home. Their
demand was clear: a hefty N20 million for the boy's safe return.
During interrogation, Shaibu laid bare his cynical motive. "Our
intention was not to harm the boy, but to collect the sum of N20 million from
his rich father. I would have travelled overseas with my own share of the
money,” he reportedly told investigators, illustrating a cold calculation
fueled by a desire for a new life abroad.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin,
confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect's arrest was a direct result
of a complaint lodged by the victim's father.
According to Hundeyin, on May 1, 2025, at approximately 4:50 pm,
detectives received the report of Hassan’s abduction and the ransom demand.
Operatives were immediately deployed to the designated ransom collection point
at a filling station near Wema Bridge in Apapa. It was there that Musa Shaibu
was successfully apprehended.
The police operation didn't stop there. The team quickly located the
kidnappers’ hideout – a hotel in the Ajegunle area. Hassan was rescued unhurt,
debriefed, and safely reunited with his relieved family. The hotel manager was
also arrested and taken into custody as investigations continue.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present threat of
abduction, but also highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing
in dismantling criminal networks and rescuing victims. While Shaibu's dreams of
an overseas escape have been shattered, the prompt intervention by the Lagos
Police has secured a child's freedom and brought a measure of justice to a
desperate situation.
