Engaged Couple D!es Hours Apart in Separate Crashes
Their future was bright: a new house, a wedding planned for February
2026, and a cherished 4-year-old son. But in a cruel twist of fate that is
almost impossible to comprehend, 25-year-old Alexus Lee and 35-year-old John
“JR” Collins, an engaged couple, tragically died on the same day in two
separate accidents in Louisiana, leaving their dreams, and their son, behind.
The double fatality occurred overnight on Friday, May 16th, casting a
pall of sorrow over their loved ones. The Louisiana State Police confirmed they
responded to "two separate fatal crashes on LA 67 in two different
parishes," connected by an agonizing thread.
The initial incident involved Alexus Lee, whose 2013 Toyota Highlander
crashed in East Baton Rouge Parish just after 2:00 a.m. For reasons still under
investigation, her vehicle veered off the road and overturned, leading to fatal
injuries. Authorities noted she was unrestrained.
In a heartbreaking sequence of events, upon learning of his fiancée's
crash, John "JR" Collins immediately set out for the scene. Less than
two hours after Lee's accident, shortly before 3:45 a.m., Collins's own journey
ended tragically. Police reported that his 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, traveling at
a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate a curve, exited the roadway, and
struck a tree. He, too, was unrestrained and ejected, pronounced deceased at
the scene.
Both crashes are still under investigation, as friends and family mourn
the sudden, devastating loss of a couple whose lives were so intertwined and
whose future together was just beginning.
Our hearts ache for their 4-year-old son, Gabriel, and all who loved
Alexus and JR.
