The future of Nigerian swimming just got a whole lot brighter! Meet Aidan
Dumuje-Abili, a remarkable 14-year-old JSS3 student from Grange School, Lagos,
who has just clinched a silver medal in swimming at the ongoing 2024 National
Sports Festival!
Aidan made waves by finishing an impressive second in the highly
competitive men’s backstroke event, clocking a fantastic time of 1:04.15. He
proudly stood on the podium alongside Team Ogun’s Kolade Otunla, who secured
the gold with a time of 1:02.41, and Team Delta’s Duke Enyekamime, who took
home the bronze in 1:04.70.
What makes Dumuje-Abili’s silver medal even more significant? This marks
his very first senior-level medal, a monumental step in what's already shaping
up to be an illustrious career. To achieve this feat against formidable senior
competition at such a young age is truly commendable.
