Nigerian Journalist Urges Men to Get a Car Before Second Child
Nigerian civil engineer turned
broadcast journalist, Adedayo Oderinu, has sparked conversations on social
media with his advice to married men: “Buy a car before having a second
child.”
In a Facebook post on Friday,
Oderinu shared his concerns about the struggles many women—some of them
pregnant—face while trying to move around with their children in harsh weather
conditions.
"Dear Men, no vex for this thing
wey I wan talk," he wrote.
"Before you get your woman
pregnant the second time, abeg, try make you buy car to move the family
around."
Acknowledging that many men see
their first child as proof of fertility, he emphasized that before welcoming a
second child, they should prioritize getting a car to ease transportation
stress for their families.
Oderinu described how heartbreaking
it is to see women struggling with multiple kids under the scorching sun, often
while heavily pregnant.
"Any humane person will
worry greatly about seeing women struggling with kids in the hot sun, trying to
move around town. Some would be struggling with more than two kids while still
pregnant. Very disturbing sight!"
While he acknowledged financial
realities, his message emphasized planning and prioritizing family comfort over
unnecessary luxury.
Oderinu’s statement has sparked
mixed reactions online. Some agree with his viewpoint, stressing that having a
car is essential for family mobility, while others argue that financial
stability should come before any material possession.
Concluding his post, Oderinu urged
men to show more empathy towards their partners.
"Let us give these
'willies' some lessons in empathy, e dakun."
Well said but still not a must.
