President Tinubu Swears in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator of Rivers State(PHOTOS)
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has
officially sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) as the Sole Administrator
of Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency in the
region.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at
the President’s office in Aso Rock this afternoon, was attended by key
government officials, including:Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the
President, Lateef Fagbemi, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and
Minister of Justice, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, Principal Private Secretary to the
President and Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
The ceremony took place just before
3 PM, solidifying the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibas to take over the
administration of Rivers State.
On Tuesday, March 18, President
Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending: Governor
Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu and All elected members of the
Rivers State House of Assembly.
The President cited political
instability, constitutional breaches, and security threats as the reasons for
the drastic action.
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.)
is a retired military officer who previously served as Nigeria’s Chief of Naval
Staff from 2015 to 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
With this new appointment, Ibas is
now tasked with stabilizing Rivers State and overseeing its affairs until
governance can return to normal.
