Kano Court Sentences Woman to De@th for Murd£r of Eight-Year-Old Girl
A Kano State High Court has sentenced a housewife, Fadila Adamu, to death by hanging for the murd£r of her childhood friend’s eight-year-old daughter, Aisha Sani.
In a tragic case dating back to
2019, Fadila was found guilty of kidnapping the young girl on her way home from
Islamiyya school and later throwing her into a well, leading to her death.
Aisha’s body was discovered two weeks later in a well located in Gandu Albasa
Quarters, Kano.
The court, presided over by Justice
Yusuf Muhammad-Ubale, ruled that the prosecution had provided sufficient
evidence to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. As a result, the
defendant was convicted of both kidnapping and culpable homicide.
"I hereby sentence the
defendant to death by hanging for kidnapping and throwing the victim into a
well, which caused her death," the judge declared.
During the trial, the prosecution,
led by Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, recounted the events of July 14, 2019, when
Fadila abducted the minor in Tudun Wada Quarters, Kano.
According to court proceedings,
Fadila initially took Aisha to her home and told her sister that the child was
her friend’s daughter, whose mother had traveled to Ghana. She asked her sister
to care for the child until her mother returned. However, on July 17, 2019, at
around 6:30 p.m., she threw Aisha into a deep well in Tukuntawa Quarters,
causing her death.
The prosecution presented seven
witnesses, the defendant’s statements, and a medical report confirming Aisha’s
death as evidence. The charges were brought under Sections 274(b) and 221(a) of
the Penal Code.
While Fadila denied the charges,
her defense counsel, Zulaihat Tata, called four witnesses, including the
defendant herself, in an attempt to prove her innocence.
The court’s ruling brings closure
to a heartbreaking case that shocked the local community.
