Kogi Prison Break: Correctional Officer K!lled, Three Inmates Re-Arrested
The Acting Controller General of
the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Sly Nwakuche, has confirmed the k!lling
of a correctional officer following a jailbreak at the Koton Karfe Correctional
Centre in Kogi State.
The prison break occurred early
Monday morning, March 24, 2025, with twelve inmates managing to escape.
Addressing the media at the scene, Nwakuche announced that three of the
fugitives have been re-arrested, while efforts are ongoing to capture the
remaining escapees.
He described the loss of the
correctional officer as deeply regrettable, vowing that authorities would
ensure justice is served.
The Correctional Service has urged
the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals to
security agencies.
"We are calling on citizens
to provide any useful information that can lead to the capture of the remaining
escapees. We will not rest until every last one of them is back in
custody," Nwakuche assured.
The jailbreak raises serious
security concerns, especially following recent prison escapes across the
country. Authorities are expected to intensify security measures to prevent
further breaches.
