Mr Macaroni Opens Up About N500 Million Debt
Popular content creator and actor Adebowale
Adedayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, has revealed that he fell into serious
financial troubles, accumulating debts of over N500 million due to a scam, a
failed investment, and financial recklessness.
In a heartfelt post shared on X
(formerly Twitter) on March 20, the comedian disclosed that his financial
struggles began in 2021, worsened by borrowing money to meet obligations and
his habit of excessive generosity.
Mr Macaroni revealed that he was a victim
of fraud and a bad investment that wiped out all his savings between 2021 and
2022. However, he chose not to share his struggles with anyone, masking his
financial troubles while continuing to entertain and support others.
"If you know me well
enough, you would know I do not like to share my problems. I could be going
through the worst and at the same time helping others solve their own problems,
but I just would never share mine."
Despite losing everything, he felt
obligated to borrow money to meet his commitments, believing that his steady
income in millions would cover repayments. However, he soon realized he was
only paying back interests, sinking deeper into debt.
"Please don’t borrow money!
But if you must, please be responsible," he warned.
Macaroni admitted that he has
always been financially reckless, a trait his family and friends had repeatedly
cautioned him about. He shared how he often prioritized helping others over his
own needs, even before fame.
"I would give out my money
for lunch to someone who didn’t have breakfast, forgetting that I would go
hungry when it’s time for lunch."
He explained that he always felt
his wealth was a blessing from God to help others, but he now understands that even
generosity needs balance.
While 2024 marked a breakthrough
year in his acting career, with films he starred in gaining international
recognition, it was also his most challenging year due to overwhelming debt.
"I was burdened every
single day and night knowing that I was over half a billion in debt."
To make matters worse, he was betrayed
by someone he deeply loved and trusted—an experience that shook him to his
core.
"She betrayed my trust,
love, and confidence, and for that, I was completely destabilized. I hardly
trust people, and nothing really surprises me about humans, but this one, I
could never have prepared for."
Despite the hardships, Mr Macaroni
declared that he is a fighter and has started to rebuild himself with the support
of family and friends.
"When I fall, I bounce back
even stronger by God’s grace and I keep my head up."
Encouraging others going through
tough times, he urged them not to give up, learn from mistakes, and stay strong
in the face of betrayal and hardships.
"May the love in our hearts be forever greater than the hate, betrayal, and wickedness in the world."
