The group was traveling from Ogoja, Cross River State, to Abatete in Anambra State for the burial of their late member, Dr. Ezigbo Sunny.

According to one of the survivors, Pastor Christian Ikere, passengers had noticed that the bus was experiencing brake issues before departing Ogoja. Despite their repeated pleas to the driver to fix the problem, their concerns were ignored.

A witness, Mr. Chidiebere Chukwu, who was traveling in a separate coaster bus, revealed that one of the three buses lost control and signaled to other vehicles to clear the road to avoid an accident. Unfortunately, upon reaching the UNIZIK junction, the bus collided with an inter-city commercial vehicle, leading to the tragic crash.

Authorities are investigating the accident. Meanwhile, road users are urged to ensure vehicle safety before embarking on long journeys.

May the soul of the departed rest in peace.
