Tragedy in Benue: 14-Year-Old Pregnant Schoolgirl Commits Su!c!de
A heartbreaking incident has shaken
the Egba community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, as a 14-year-old
secondary school student, Nicknes Ayo, tragically took her own life.
The teenager, who was schooling in Otukpo,
reportedly returned home on Thursday, March 27, 2025, showing signs of
pregnancy. Her mother, upon noticing the changes, pressured her to reveal the
identity of the man responsible.
According to a neighbor, Mama Enyi,
Ayo initially denied being pregnant but fled home when her mother threatened to
take her to a clinic for confirmation.
“She was later found in her room
after taking a substance suspected to be Gammalin,” the neighbor told Punch.
“She was rushed to a nearby clinic, known as ‘Ghana Clinic,’ for emergency
care.”
Dr. Oyaje Sule, the medical
director of the clinic, confirmed receiving the girl on Saturday morning, March
29.
“It is true, they brought a
14-year-old girl to my clinic this morning. She was suspected to have taken
Gammalin after her mother pressured her to disclose the identity of her unborn
child's father,” he stated.
Due to the severity of her
condition, she was referred to a hospital in Obagaji, the headquarters of Agatu
Local Government. Sadly, she did not survive the journey and was pronounced
dead before arrival.
Nicknes Ayo has since been buried,
leaving behind a grieving family. Reports indicate that she lost her father a
few years ago, further compounding the tragedy.
This heartbreaking incident
highlights the urgent need for increased awareness, open communication, and
support for young girls facing such situations, rather than societal or family
pressure that can lead to devastating consequences.
