The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed a tragic motor accident that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, March 19, near Nyanya Bridge. The devastating crash left six people dead and destroyed 14 vehicles in its wake.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident happened at approximately 6:58 PM when a heavily loaded trailer transporting cement lost control while approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA. The out-of-control vehicle crashed into stationary cars caught in traffic, triggering a fiery disaster.

“The impact engulfed 14 vehicles in a raging inferno, causing panic and chaos as bystanders and motorists scrambled for safety,” Adeh stated.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene to battle the thick smoke and intense heat in a desperate attempt to rescue those trapped. Unfortunately, six victims succumbed to their injuries despite being rushed to the hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead. Their remains have been deposited at the Karu General Hospital Morgue.

Police operatives, in collaboration with the fire service, security agencies, and brave individuals at the scene, managed to contain the fire and restore normal traffic flow.

The FCT Police Command expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash and implement preventive measures.
