The Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to impound any articulated vehicle found transporting both animals and passengers in the state.

The state FRSC Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, made this declaration on Wednesday, March 26, following a meeting with members of the Ondo State House of Assembly in Akure.

According to him, the command is intensifying efforts to address anomalies associated with articulated vehicles, ensuring road safety across the state.

Dr. Ibitoye emphasized that the practice of mixing human passengers with goods or livestock, known as ‘mixed loading,’ poses serious safety risks and will no longer be tolerated.

“We are not taking this for granted. Any vehicle caught engaging in this act will be arrested and impounded,” he said.

He further revealed that many accident victims in such vehicles go unnoticed because they are not visible at first glance.

“When crashes occur, you’d think only the driver and his assistant (motor boy) are involved, but shockingly, we find over 10 people inside the vehicle alongside cows.”

To curb this dangerous practice, the FRSC is working closely with stakeholders to educate and caution drivers. In addition to advocacy, strict enforcement measures are being put in place, with offenders facing vehicle impoundment and necessary sanctions.

The command urges drivers to comply with safety regulations to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of road users.
