Chaos in Lagos: Military Storms Ikeja Electric Over Power Cut!(Video)
The headquarters of Ikeja
Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja Electric) was stormed by armed military
personnel in the early hours of Thursday, March 6, 2025, following a power
supply disconnection at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) logistics base in Ikeja.
The invasion, which reportedly
occurred around 7:40 AM, also saw military officers forcing their way into
another Ikeja Electric office located on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo, Lagos.
According to reports by Punch and
The Guardian, the military personnel allegedly gathered staff members at the
Ikeja office, forcing them to kneel while some were physically assaulted.
Videos from the scene show armed military officers disrupting operations and
intimidating employees.
A source within Ikeja Electric,
speaking anonymously due to fear of repercussions, revealed that many workers
have since gone into hiding, with some who reported for duty on Thursday now unreachable.
Tensions between Ikeja Electric and
the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, had been brewing following the disconnection
of power supply due to unpaid electricity debts.
Reports indicate that the base had
been without power for two weeks after failing to meet its agreement to pay ₦60
million monthly for 10 to 12 hours of electricity daily.
Insiders also revealed that the prolonged
blackout was compromising the security of the base’s operational warehouse,
which houses high-caliber armaments. The failure of the cooling systems due to
the power outage reportedly posed serious safety risks.
Following the invasion, many
Nigerians, including media personality Rufai Oseni, took to social media
platform X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the military’s actions, calling it an
abuse of power and a threat to corporate operations.
As of the time of filing this report, the offices of Ikeja Electric remain shut down, with staff members fearing for their safety. The Nigerian military and Ikeja Electric have yet to issue official statements regarding the incident.
why intimidating the staff, are the staff the issue?
