The Faces of Evil: Father and Stepmother Who Inflicted Horror on Minor Daughter
Lagos State authorities have
stepped in to investigate a disturbing case of domestic abuse, as Chidera
Ukeje's father and stepmother have been taken in for questioning following
allegations of severe physical abuse, starvation, and neglect.
Chidera's ordeal came to public
attention after concerned neighbors raised alarm on social media,
sharing the heartbreaking details of her suffering. They revealed that her stepmother
regularly beat her, starved her, and withdrew her from school, leaving her
isolated and vulnerable.
The situation escalated when the young
girl was locked inside the house alone while her stepmother traveled.
Fearing for her life, neighbors used a ladder to rescue her, an act that
ultimately saved her from further harm.
Following the public outcry, the Lagos
State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and the police intervened,
ensuring that Chidera received urgent medical treatment at a hospital.
Meanwhile, her father, Vitalis
Ukeje, and stepmother, Joy Ukeje, were taken in for questioning.
Vitalis Ukeje, Chidera’s
father, is accused of allowing and enabling the abuse. However, he
claims to have been unaware of the suffering his daughter endured— a
statement that many find hard to believe, given the extent of her injuries.
Joy Ukeje, his wife of four
years, is believed to be the main perpetrator of the abuse. Reports
suggest she subjected the young girl to severe beatings, starvation, and
neglect following the passing of Chidera's biological mother.
With growing evidence of physical
and emotional torment, legal proceedings have begun, and Joy Ukeje is
set to be charged in court.
This tragic case highlights the urgent
need to protect vulnerable children from domestic abuse. As Chidera
recovers, the hope is that justice will be served and that her story will
inspire stronger enforcement of child protection laws in Nigeria.
