Footballer Jordan Chiedozie,
a former Bournemouth player and son of ex-Tottenham
winger John Okechukwu Chiedozie, has been left in a coma after
a devastating car accident. The 30-year-old, who currently plays for Bashley
FC in the Southern League, suffered life-changing injuries following
the crash.
Chiedozie was traveling back
from Bashley FC’s match against Tavistock alongside club
physio Reighan Taylor when their vehicle developed a flat
tyre on the M27 near Southampton. As they pulled over to
inspect the issue, a speeding car crashed into them from behind,
leaving Chiedozie with multiple broken bones and critical injuries.
He was rushed to
Southampton Hospital, where doctors placed him in a medically
induced coma due to the severity of his injuries.
Bashley FC released an official
statement confirming the accident and revealing that the driver responsible has
been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury
by dangerous driving.
The club also confirmed that Taylor,
though physically unharmed, was left deeply traumatized by the
incident. Despite her shock, she was able to provide basic first aid to
Chiedozie at the scene before emergency responders arrived.
The tragic accident has left
the entire Bashley FC community devastated. In response, the club
requested the postponement of their upcoming match against Thatcham
Town, a request that the Southern League granted out of respect.
Manager David Lewis expressed
his sorrow over the incident, stating:
"Everyone at the club is in
complete shock. Right now, our priority is Jordan’s well-being, as well as
supporting Reighan and his family during this difficult time. His teammates are
devastated, and in these circumstances, playing football is the last thing on
our minds."
Chiedozie began his football career
at Bournemouth’s academy in 2007 before moving through the
ranks of over 15 clubs. Known for his determination and skill, his fight
for survival has now become his toughest challenge yet.
As the football community rallies around him, fans and teammates remain hopeful for his recovery.
