Former Director-General of the
Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Joe Abah, has praised the improved
efficiency at Nigerian Airports in Abuja, sharing his
recent experience with the airport’s automated e-gates.
In a post on X (formerly
Twitter), Abah expressed his amazement at how smoothly the immigration
process went, comparing it to Heathrow Airport in London.
Detailing his journey through the
airport, Abah wrote:
"This morning, I landed at
Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja. We were directed to a section for Nigerian
passport holders. Before me were e-gates, similar to the ones at Heathrow
Airport."
Explaining how the process worked,
he said:
"I simply scanned my
passport, and it opened one gate for me. Then I took off my cap and glasses,
and it scanned my face and opened the second gate. That’s it! I was in!!"
"No long queues. No
excessive greetings from any immigration officer asking me what I brought back
for them. Less than one minute, and I was in!!!"
Impressed by the seamless process,
Abah went on to appreciate the efforts of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi
Tunji-Ojo (@BTOofficial) and the Comptroller General of the Nigerian
Immigration Service (@nigimmigration) for implementing such an efficient
system.
"Honourable Minister and
CG, I just want to say THANK YOU! I am proud of you both. God bless you!!"
His post quickly gained traction,
with many Nigerians expressing hope that similar improvements would be
implemented across other airports in the country.
