Inheritance Drama! Herbert Wigwe's Sister Speaks Out on Court Case Over Late Brother's Estate (Video)
Joyce Wigwe, the elder sister of
the late Herbert Wigwe, has shed light on the ongoing legal battle concerning
her brother’s estate and guardianship of his children.
In an interview with TV360
Exclusive, Joyce addressed the family’s dispute with Herbert’s close friend and
business partner, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, clarifying that the conflict is not
with Herbert’s children.
Following Wigwe’s tragic passing in
February 2024, a court case emerged regarding the administration of his estate.
In November 2024, Herbert’s father,
Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, and cousin, Christian Chukwuka Wigwe, filed a motion to appoint
interim administrators, citing concerns over potential mismanagement and guardianship
issues regarding Herbert’s minor children.
However, in February 2025, the Lagos
State High Court dismissed their application, ruling that they lacked the legal
standing to intervene since they were not beneficiaries of Herbert’s will.
The court upheld that Aig-Imoukhuede
and Uche Wigwe were trustees and personal representatives of Herbert’s estate,
as specified in his will.
Joyce revealed that their family
had always welcomed Herbert’s friends, including Aigboje’s family.
However, she claimed that tensions became
evident at Herbert’s funeral, where Aigboje and his wife allegedly restricted
access to the children.
"It was obvious from the
funeral that AIG and his wife kept flanking the kids and would not let us get
close to them," she said.
She also alleged that Access Bank
staff controlled seating arrangements, preventing the family from sitting near
the children.
After the funeral, Aigboje
allegedly held private meetings with Herbert’s father, excluding other family
members. Joyce expressed concern over the lack of transparency, particularly
when Aigboje asked her father to sign documents regarding Herbert’s estate.
Joyce further disclosed that Aigboje
stopped providing financial support to their father, claiming that Herbert’s
father was using the funds to sue him.
In response, the family argued that
Herbert’s estate had enough funds to continue supporting his parents, leading
them to file a legal application to clarify Herbert’s financial interests,
including his shares in Access Bank and life insurance policies.
Despite the dispute, Joyce
emphasized that the family remains close to Herbert’s children.
She recalled advising her niece,
Tochi, to keep copies of any documents she signed concerning the estate.
"She said, ‘Yes, Auntie,
I will,’ and that was the last conversation I had with her," Joyce
revealed, hinting at sudden developments that followed.
On February 9, 2024, Herbert Wigwe,
his wife Doreen, and their son Chizi died in a helicopter crash near Nipton,
California, while traveling to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl.
The accident also claimed the lives
of former Nigerian Exchange Group Chairman Abimbola Ogunbanjo and two crew
members.
