Actress Barbie Hsu, Star of "Meteor Garden," Dies at 48
According to reports, Hsu
developed influenza-related pneumonia while on a family trip
to Japan during the Lunar New Year holiday. Her
younger sister confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement shared by her
agent and reported by Taiwan’s Central News Agency.
"My dearest and kindest sister, Barbie Hsu, sadly left us due to influenza complications that led to pneumonia. I am grateful to have been her sister in this lifetime—to take care of each other and accompany each other. I will forever be thankful to her and miss her."
News of Hsu’s passing quickly
became the top trending topic on China’s Weibo,
with fans from Taiwan, the Philippines, and other Asian countries mourning
her loss.
Chinese actor Huang
Xiaoming, who starred alongside Hsu in a Taiwanese drama, expressed his
shock and grief:
"I've heard that truly
brilliant souls are never dimmed by time—they remain vibrant, like bubbles
shining in the sun."
Filipino fan Edmalyn Canton shared
a heartfelt tribute on Facebook:
"Thank you for bringing joy
to my childhood. You will always be my favorite version of Meteor Garden and
will forever be remembered."
Taiwanese celebrity Stacy
Hsu also honored the late actress, writing:
"Her beauty and intelligence will forever remain in our hearts."
Beyond her acting career, Hsu
was an advocate for animal rights, with PETA remembering
her as "one of the first and biggest stars" to
support their cause.
