Ini Edo Mourns: Nollywood Actress Loses Beloved Father

 

Award-winning Nollywood actress Ini Edo has been plunged into mourning following the loss of her beloved father. The actress took to Instagram on Monday, February 24, to share the heartbreaking news, expressing her deep sorrow over his passing.

Sharing a touching photo of her late father, Ini Edo described his loss as "the hardest thing she had to bear."

"This post has been the hardest to make… I have lost my greatest cheerleader… My Beloved Father, My first love. The Heavens have gained an Angel. You will forever remain in my heart. Rest on, King."

Though Ini Edo did not disclose the cause of death or the date of his passing, her emotional tribute was met with an overwhelming response from fans, friends, and colleagues. The comments section of her post quickly filled with condolence messages and words of comfort from industry peers and supporters.

Her loss follows a series of recent tragedies in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Just weeks ago, comedian Bovi mourned the passing of his father, Edward Sagini Ugboma, who passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025. Similarly, in December 2024, actress Lala Akindoju announced the loss of her father at the age of 71, describing him as a “present and loving father.”

Ini Edo has been a household name in Nollywood since she burst onto the scene in 2000. Her breakthrough role in World Apart (2004) cemented her status as a leading actress, and over the years, she has starred in numerous films, earning multiple awards for her performances.

Beyond acting, she has expanded her reach, appearing in Netflix’s hit reality TV series Young, Famous & African, which introduced her to a global audience.
