VeryDarkMan Walks Free: Released from EFCC Custody (Video)
Martins Vincent Otse, popularly
known as VeryDarkMan, has regained his freedom after spending several
days in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The outspoken activist was arrested
on Friday, May 2, following what the EFCC described as “serious allegations
of financial misconduct.” In a statement released on Tuesday, the
commission said the arrest was based on multiple petitions too significant to
overlook.
However, his detention sparked
widespread reaction from supporters nationwide. Youths in various cities staged
protests, demanding transparency and the immediate release of the social media
personality, known for his fiery commentary and no-holds-barred approach to
controversial issues.
After days of mounting pressure and
online agitation, VDM was finally released this evening. He is currently with
his legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, who had earlier stated that no formal
petition had been disclosed against his client.
A video circulating online shows
VDM smiling beside Adeyanju a moment of calm after a stormy few days.
