Beckham and Neville Seal Deal: Salford City Under New Ownership
From Manchester United legends to
football club owners, David Beckham and Gary Neville are taking their
partnership to the next level this time as the new power duo behind League Two
side Salford City.
In a major shake-up, the iconic
Class of ’92 members have now fully taken over the club, buying out their
longtime teammates Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, and Phil Neville.
While their fellow Red Devils may no longer hold shares, reports say they’ll
still stay close, offering guidance behind the scenes.
The shift comes after the exit of
former majority shareholder Peter Lim in 2024. Seizing the moment, Beckham and
Neville launched a search for fresh investment and brought heavyweight names
into the mix including Declan Kelly, founder of U.S.-based advisory firm
Consello, and Lord Mervyn Davies, chairman of the Lawn Tennis Association.
This new ownership group now holds 80%
of the club, injecting between $15–$20 million to fuel Salford’s next chapter.
The focus? Upgrading the stadium and training facilities, investing in the
local community, and pushing the club up to the Championship within five years.
Speaking on the transition, Beckham
said:
“I’ll be over every big decision
and every little one. That’s my commitment to Gary and the club.”
Neville echoed the sentiment with a
vision rooted in transparency and legacy:
“Owners are just guardians for
the fans. We’ve always shared what happens behind the scenes, and that’s not
changing.”
With a new CEO set to be appointed
soon and fresh plans on the table, Salford City might just be gearing up for
the biggest transformation in its history.
