Joshua Undergoes Surgery, Fury Fight Plans Put on Hold
British-Nigerian boxing icon Anthony
Joshua has finally broken his silence about his prolonged absence from the ring
and it turns out; a lingering elbow issue has been holding him back.
In a candid chat with DAZN over the
weekend, AJ revealed he’s set to undergo minor surgery in May to fix the
nagging injury, which will keep him out of training for at least six to eight
weeks.
“When do you want me back,
people?” he said with a grin. “I’m trying to get my body right. I’ve got
to have a little surgery on my elbow... finalising the details, but it’s
nothing major. Once I’m healed, I’ll be back.”
This update comes months after
Joshua’s brutal knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley in September 2024, a
defeat that left fans questioning what’s next for the two-time heavyweight
champion. Now, it seems the answer is: recovery first, then redemption.
While AJ focuses on healing, buzzing
around a potential "Battle of Britain" with Tyson Fury
continues to build momentum. Fury’s former promoter, Frank Warren, told Mail
Sport that the matchup could still happen if both fighters are up for it.
“It’ll be about whether Tyson
wants to do it, and whether AJ wants to do it,” Warren said. “It’s the
one that never happened. Everybody wants to see it.”
Despite years of hype and verbal
jabs between the two heavyweights, a deal has never truly materialized. But
fans haven’t given up hope and neither, it seems, has AJ.
For now, Joshua is focused on
getting his body back to fighting shape. The surgery may be a bump in the road,
but it could be the reset he needs before making a massive return to the ring perhaps,
finally, against Fury.
