EFCC Breaks Silence on VeryDarkMan's Arrest
The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) has officially confirmed his arrest, stating it was prompted
by multiple petitions alleging cyberstalking. Speaking to BBC News on Monday,
May 5, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale explained that the arrest was not
arbitrary but rather a response to "a series of allegations raised by
several individuals."
“We arrested him to respond to a
series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale
said. “We will release him when he meets the bail conditions, and we will
take the case to court as soon as possible. We are law-abiding.”
The commission has made it clear
that arraignment is in the works, signaling that the case is far from over.
While details of the petitions
remain under wraps, the EFCC’s move has reignited debates about freedom of
expression, online activism, and the line between public critique and criminal
offense.
Known for his unfiltered takes on
societal and political issues, VeryDarkMan has amassed a large following and an
equally strong group of detractors. His arrest adds to a growing list of social
media influencers facing scrutiny from Nigerian authorities for their online
activities.
